Butterfly Marketing Or Bust?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last couple of weeks you’ve probably seen all the hype surrounding Mike Filsaime’s launch of Butterfly Marketing 2.0 which kicked off on March 23rd. It is arguably the biggest launch that I have seen in the last couple of months and I think the truly interesting thing was the fact that it didn’t go off without a hitch like many people would have expected.
Now Mike is one of the top Internet Marketers in the world and you’d think that when he launches a product he’d get it right first time, but in this case it’s fair to say that it took a couple of goes to get it all up and running before people were able to get their hands on Butterfly Marketing 2.0. What’s interesting is that Mike has decided not to let the subsequent press and annoyance get to him, rather he has seized the situation and done as much as he can to get it right.
So, what can you and I, the mere mortal Internet Marketers learn from this launch? Well, for one thing, it’s unlikely that anything truly goes to plan when it comes to putting a new product like this together, and if Mike can have issues with all his experience, shouldn’t it be easy to understand that you may some hurdles of your own?
Another key thing to take away from all of this is that it’s sometimes not the way you handle success that truly determines whether or not you have a future in this business, rather it is the way that you handle adversity. Now I’m sure that the cynical among you will think ‘oh but he is just making more money out of this’ due to the way in which he has responded to the problem by offering more copies of Butterfly Marketing 2.0 to people who want it.
But let’s be honest, if he hadn’t and he’d simply closed the doors with people being angry about not securing a copy even though they received an email to say they had surely that would have done him more harm than sparking off the cynacism of a few people around the globe? What he has done is put an additional 10,000 copies of his system out there for people to get their hands on, and to me that seems like a great way to reward those people who tried hard to get their order in but ultimately ran into technical difficulties.
Of course there are the ’super haters’ out there who won’t be happy no matter what the outcome and take joy in the fact that Mike had his problems as well as those who just don’t seem to be able to get past the fact that what he is ’selling’, yes, ’selling’ actually costs money (if you need any proof, take a look at this). But then if your one of those types of guys you’re probably destined to continue reading everyone else’s success stories instead of writing your own.
Anyway, just my take on the whole thing, and a lesson learned for me (albeit on I’ve learned many times before).
